Akka trailer: Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte go to war in Pernuru ahead of 30 October Netflix launch

Netflix India has released the official trailer of Akka, the YRF Entertainment gangster series in which Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte play rival women in a kingdom ruled by women. The series streams from 30 October.

Netflix India released the official trailer of Akka on 22 October, a week before the gangster series reaches the platform on 30 October. The trailer runs 2 minutes 24 seconds and sets Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte against each other.

Keerthy plays Bhavani and Radhika plays Rudra, two women whose ambitions collide at the centre of the story. Tanvi Azmi is also part of the cast.

A kingdom built by women

Akka is set in the 1980s in Pernuru, a fictional kingdom that, in the series’ own telling, was built, governed and protected by generations of women. The trailer plays up the tradition, loyalty and family ties that hold that world together, and the rivalry between Bhavani and Rudra that threatens to split it. Power, revenge and the price of both are the themes the makers stress.

The series is in Hindi. For Telugu viewers, the draw is Keerthy, who is the face of the poster alongside Radhika.

In the story as Netflix frames it, Bhavani and Rudra want different things, and those clashing ambitions put the established order of Pernuru at risk. That is the conflict the trailer builds towards, with the two leads facing off across its 2 minutes 24 seconds.

Who is behind it

Dharmaraj Shetty has written the series and makes his directorial debut with it. It is produced by YRF Entertainment, and Aditya Chopra is credited on the project.

The first look came earlier. Netflix India put out the official teaser on 17 October, which was Keerthy’s birthday, and announced the 30 October date alongside it. The new trailer is the fuller introduction: it lays out the two lead characters and the stakes between them, rather than only the mood of the world.

What to know before 30 October

  • Platform: Netflix.
  • Premiere: 30 October.
  • Leads: Keerthy Suresh (Bhavani) and Radhika Apte (Rudra).
  • Writer-director: Dharmaraj Shetty, in his first outing as director.

For Keerthy, Akka puts her in a tough, commanding role opposite Radhika. How that rivalry plays out across the full series will be clear only when it streams.
