Dasara box office: Jailer 2 races ahead as Ranabaali trails; Aadarsha Kutumbam yet to arrive
Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 has led the Dasara holiday weekend at the box office, while Vijay Deverakonda's Ranabaali faces a crucial test on 19 and 20 October, the last two days of the break.

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has pulled well ahead of Vijay Deverakonda’s Ranabaali, the festival’s big Telugu release, at the Dasara box office over the holiday weekend. Ranabaali has failed to offer the Rajinikanth film serious competition.
Jailer 2 dominates
Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, opened on Thursday, October 15, in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada. The film collected Rs 199.90 crore net in India over its first four days, with a worldwide gross of Rs 424.25 crore, including Rs 190 crore from overseas markets. The Telugu version alone has made Rs 37.75 crore net in India.
In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana the film collected about Rs 10 crore on its first day on the back of pre-release hype, and more than Rs 7 crore on day two. The Telugu version, acquired for about Rs 40 crore, has grossed roughly the same amount in the two states and has been audiences’ top pick over the holiday.
Ranabaali’s last holiday test
Ranabaali, directed by Rahul Sankrityan and co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, released on Friday, October 16. Its India net stood at Rs 9.25 crore on day one, Rs 7.30 crore on 17 October and Rs 7.50 crore on 18 October, a total of Rs 24.05 crore. Its worldwide gross stands at Rs 36.90 crore, with Rs 23.50 crore of the Rs 28 crore India gross coming from the Telugu states.
The film is struggling in the US, where it is finding it hard to reach the $1 million mark, but is holding steadier in the Telugu states. With mixed word of mouth, 19 and 20 October, the last days of the Dasara holidays, will decide how close it gets to break-even.
Earlier releases at the Dasara box office
Sree Vishnu’s Comrade Kalyan, which opened on October 9, has collected Rs 13.36 crore net in India and Rs 18.01 crore gross worldwide over ten days, with daily collections now down to about Rs 20 lakh.
Venkatesh’s Aadarsha Kutumbam, directed by Trivikram, did not release on October 9 as earlier planned. Producer Naga Vamsi announced an indefinite postponement at a press meet on 5 October, saying the team needed more time to complete the final copy. A new date has not been officially announced.
All collection figures are early estimates and may be revised.
