Campaigning for Andhra Pradesh's urban local body elections ended at 5 pm on Friday. Voters in 13 municipal corporations and 87 municipalities and nagar panchayats go to the polls on Sunday, 1 November, from 7 am to 5 pm, and the votes are counted on 3 November.

The loudspeakers fell silent at 5 pm on Friday, 30 October, 48 hours before polling, and Andhra Pradesh’s urban local body elections now pass to the voters. Polling in 13 municipal corporations and 87 municipalities and nagar panchayats takes place on Sunday, 1 November, from 7 am to 5 pm.

Any repoll will be held on 2 November, and counting begins at 8 am on 3 November. Corporation-wise and party-wise results will appear on the Telugu Scope results page as they are declared.

Security and arrangements

In all, 36,351 police personnel are on election duty across the state. Drones, CCTV cameras, videographers and webcasting will keep watch on sensitive and highly sensitive polling centres, and Section 144 will be in force at polling centres.

The Commission has also allowed social security pensions to be paid on 1 November, on conditions: only existing beneficiaries are to be paid, no new names may be added, and only authorised staff may handle the cash.

Seats already decided

Not every ward will vote. In the 13 corporations, 118 of the 922 divisions were won unopposed. In Pidugurallu, Dachepalli, Proddatur, Kamalapuram and Rayachoti, every ward was settled without a contest, so there is no polling there. Seventeen municipal chairperson posts are already settled in the ruling alliance’s favour without a contest: 15 for the TDP and one each for the Jana Sena and the BJP.

Mayors, deputy mayors, chairpersons and vice-chairpersons will be chosen indirectly later, on a schedule of their own. Polling for the MPTC and ZPTC seats in the rural parishads is on 5 November, with counting on 7 November.
