Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika take the online campaign against them to Cyberabad cyber crime police

A representative of the couple filed a complaint on 26 October listing false narratives, fabricated posts, manipulated screenshots, impersonation and targeted harassment that followed their Koffee With Karan appearance. Police say the petition is being examined and no case has been registered yet.

Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna have asked the police to look at what has been said about them online. A representative of the two actors filed a complaint with the Cyberabad cyber crime wing on 26 October, and the matter now sits with the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police for Serilingampally Zone.

The complaint is specific. It lists false narratives, fabricated content, manipulated screenshots, impersonation and targeted harassment spread across several social media platforms, and it attaches links. The team has asked that the material be investigated under the law and that any coordinated or paid campaign, if the evidence shows one, be acted upon. “We hope the matter will be investigated in accordance with the law,” the statement said.

What police say

Cyberabad police confirmed the petition and said it is being examined. No case has been registered, they added, because the contents are non-cognizable in nature. In practice that means officers cannot register an FIR on their own for these allegations and would need a magistrate’s direction to proceed, or the complainants would have to approach a court directly.

The trigger was the couple’s appearance on Koffee With Karan 9. Their team says remarks on the show were twisted into claims about their relationship, and the clips and screenshots that followed were edited to fit. Rashmika had already answered the trolling with a long post on X in which she described the reaction as an angry mob, and Vijay responded angrily to the separation rumours.

Not the first time

Rashmika has been here before. In November 2023 a morphed video of her went viral, drew a response from the Union IT ministry and ended with Delhi Police arresting the man who made it in January 2024. This time the complaint is about words and screenshots rather than a single video, and the police response so far is a file under examination rather than a case.
