Jailer 2 nears Rs 400 crore in eleven days as the second weekend holds

Friday's dip was followed by a strong Saturday and Sunday. Trade estimates put the India net at about Rs 399 crore.

Rajinikanth in Jailer 2

When the second Friday slipped below Rs 15 crore, there was a question about whether Jailer 2 had run out of steam. The weekend answered it. Saturday, 24 October, brought an India net of about Rs 24 crore and Sunday, 25 October, an early estimate of Rs 26 crore, for a second weekend of about Rs 64 crore. Eleven days after its release on 14 October, the Rajinikanth film is close to Rs 399 crore net in India. Sunday’s final figure may move a little either way.

What the numbers mean is this: the Nelson-directed Sun Pictures production passed the lifetime India net of the 2023 Jailer on its ninth day and is now the second-highest-grossing Tamil film ever. The worldwide gross stood at Rs 628 crore after nine days. Overseas, the film has taken Rs 243 crore in 11 days, Rs 10 crore of it on Sunday alone.

The Telugu share

One limit needs stating. All these figures are trade-tracker estimates; the producers have not released official numbers, and no separate figure is available for the Telugu states. We will update this story when distributor figures for Nizam, Andhra and Ceded come in.

Our view: a second-Friday dip followed by a Saturday rise of about 65 per cent is the signature of family audiences arriving. With no major competition in the third week, the India net could head towards Rs 450 crore, which would be the largest figure of Rajinikanth’s career.
