Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has moved to within a few crore of Rs 500 crore gross in India. After its 14th day, Wednesday, 28 October, trade estimates put its India total at about Rs 495 crore gross, or Rs 423 crore net.

Worldwide, the sequel has gone past Rs 750 crore gross. That takes it beyond the lifetime worldwide total of 2.0, Rajinikanth and Shankar’s 2018 film, at about Rs 691 crore.

The Rs 500 crore line

2.0 is the only Tamil film so far to have crossed Rs 500 crore gross in India, finishing at about Rs 519 crore. Jailer 2 is about Rs 24 crore short of that figure, and the Rs 500 crore mark itself is expected on its 15th day.

The pace has slowed in the second week. Wednesday brought in about Rs 7.55 crore gross, the lowest single day of the run and about 21 per cent below Tuesday. The film opened with about Rs 70 crore gross on its first day and crossed Rs 400 crore in India on its ninth.

The Hindi version has contributed about Rs 51 crore gross of the India total.

Two new Telugu films, Aadarsha Kutumbam and Cult, open in theatres on Friday, 30 October.
