Cheyutha pensions for 4.5 lakh more people in Telangana: Revanth Reddy to hand out first sanction letters in Kodangal on 8 November

About 4.5 lakh more people in Telangana are to start getting Cheyutha pensions, and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will hand the first sanction letters to new beneficiaries in Kodangal, his own constituency in Vikarabad district, on Sunday, 8 November. Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Seethakka announced the round in a statement on Saturday, 7 November, and will attend the launch.

The new list covers widows, single women, persons with disabilities, handloom weavers, toddy tappers and other eligible people. Once the Kodangal event is over, ministers, legislators and senior officials will give out sanction letters at events in every district. The minister said all newly sanctioned pensioners would be paid from November, with the amount credited to their bank accounts, and that eligible people still left out would be covered in phases.

What the statement leaves open

The statement did not break the 4.5 lakh figure down by category or district, and it did not state the monthly amount for the new pensioners. Single women had a separate hurdle earlier in the year: many could not produce papers for the period they had lived apart. In September, on proposals from the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty, the government allowed MPDOs, municipal commissioners and deputy commissioners, besides tahsildars, to conduct the local inquiry in such cases.

The rest of Sunday in Kodangal

The pension launch falls on the second day of Revanth Reddy’s three-day tour of the constituency. His official schedule for Sunday includes a meeting at Hakimpet in Dudyala mandal with women from self-help groups, and the foundation stone for a palm oil factory that EcoPalm is to build for Rs 81 crore in the Lagacherla industrial corridor. In Kosgi mandal, at Nacharam, he is to lay the foundation for Radial Road-2, a Rs 5,060 crore road from Kothwalguda near the Outer Ring Road to National Highway 167N.

He is also listed to open primary health centres at Hakimpet and Balampet, built for Rs 2.35 crore each, a Rs 6 crore science museum at Kosgi, junior college buildings at Hakimpet, Bomraspet and Doulthabad, police station buildings at Bomraspet, Kodangal and Dudyala, and a Rs 12 crore integrated mandal office at Dudyala. Across the three days, the tour covers 13 works estimated at Rs 9,053.48 crore. It ends on Monday, 9 November with a public meeting for farmers at Hakimpet, where officials expect about 50,000 farmers from 10 districts.
