About 150 NSS volunteers of Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) marked the BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week (BSLW-2026) on the women’s university campus in Tirupati on Saturday, 31 October, with a life pledge, a walkathon, tree planting and a yoga session held between 3.30 pm and 5 pm.

The university’s NSS Bureau organised the programme. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Uma Vennam and Registrar (FAC) Prof. R. Usha guided it, and Prof. I. V. Lalitha Kumari, NSS Coordinator and the university’s nodal officer for BSLW-2026, coordinated the activities.

Pledge, walk, saplings and yoga

In the pledge, the volunteers promised to adopt eco-friendly habits and to take responsibility for protecting the environment. The walkathon carried messages on reducing waste and saving water and energy, while the planting drive focused on biodiversity and a greener campus. The yoga session dealt with physical fitness and mental wellbeing.

NSS Programme Officers Dr. K. R. Padma (Unit XXI), Dr. K. Rukmini (Unit XX) and Dr. B. R. Latha (Unit IV), Dr. M. Sankari of the Department of Biotechnology, and Prof. M. Neeraja, Dean of Student Affairs, Head of the Department of Home Science and Director, CNF, supported the programme.

The university said all the activities followed the principles of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), the Centre’s campaign that asks people to change small daily habits such as cutting waste and saving water and energy. The programme ended with a call for collective action for a cleaner, greener and healthier planet.
