TGPSC moves the engineers’ exam to 7 November for candidates caught by the SSC clash; papers due by 30 October

Candidates who sit the SSC Junior Engineer (Civil) test on 6 November may write the TGPSC Assistant Executive Engineer (Civil) paper on 7 November instead. The decision came two days after Harish Rao asked for a postponement on behalf of more than 50,000 aspirants.

The Telangana State Public Service Commission has found a way through the collision of two engineering exams. Candidates who have the Staff Selection Commission’s Junior Engineer (Civil) test on 6 November may now write the commission’s own Assistant Executive Engineer (Civil) paper, scheduled for the same day, on 7 November instead, it said on Monday. Anyone who wants the later date must send three documents by 5 pm on 30 October: a copy of the SSC hall ticket showing the 6 November date, a copy of the AEE application, and the commission’s one-time registration ID. They can be handed in at the help desk at the commission’s office or emailed to helpdesk@tgpsc.gov.in.

The commission had fixed the Roads and Buildings AEE (Civil) exam for 6 and 7 November. The SSC’s Junior Engineer papers run from 2 to 6 November, and for civil candidates who applied to both, 6 November became the problem. Commission chairman Burra Venkatesham raised it with the SSC chairman and was assured that Telangana candidates would be moved to other dates wherever possible. Many hall tickets nonetheless arrived with 6 November on them. The exception, the commission said, addresses the genuine difficulties faced by candidates while keeping the examination on track.

Harish Rao’s letter

On 24 October, BRS legislature party deputy leader T. Harish Rao had written to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy asking for the AEE exam to be put off, saying more than 50,000 civil engineering aspirants would be affected. Candidates writing the SSC paper outside the state on 5 and 6 November could not get back in time for the AEE test, he said, and Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy had already written to the commission on 14 October asking it to review the dates without a solution being found. He repeated the demand on Monday. The commission has settled the matter with a special date for those affected rather than a full postponement.
