Aadhaar login comes to Telangana’s TDR portal, but stays voluntary

A government order issued on 22 October allows Aadhaar authentication on the Transferable Development Rights portal. Applicants without Aadhaar can use other photo ID.

Property owners, builders and developers in Telangana can now use Aadhaar to register on, and log in to, the online Transferable Development Rights (TDR) portal.

Jayesh Ranjan, Special Principal Secretary for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, issued the government order on 22 October. The Union Electronics and IT Ministry, with the UIDAI, had authorised the state to carry out Aadhaar authentication under the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance Rules, 2020.

Aadhaar can be used to register, to log in, to submit TDR applications and to link an application to the property database. Officials of the Directorate of Town and Country Planning and of GHMC can also authenticate through it for administrative work on the portal.

It is optional. Nobody can be refused service for not having Aadhaar or for choosing not to use it; a passport, voter photo ID, driving licence, PAN card or another government photo ID accepted by the department will do. The government says the aim is to prevent fraudulent registrations, curb misuse of identity and make records more transparent.
