Voters at four polling stations in Andhra Pradesh’s municipal elections return to the booth on Monday, 2 November, from 7 am to 5 pm, after the State Election Commission ordered a repoll. AP municipal election counting for all 92 urban local bodies begins at 138 centres at 8 am on Tuesday, 3 November.

State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha issued the order on the night of 1 November, acting on reports from district Collectors and Superintendents of Police. It covers two booths in ward 23 of Macherla municipality in Palnadu district, one booth in ward 14 of Chimakurthi in Prakasam district, and one polling station in division 30 of the Anantapur Municipal Corporation.

Mayors picked by voters

The count will decide 13 mayor posts, sought by 153 candidates, and the chairs of 70 municipalities and nagar panchayats, sought by 367; 17 more chair posts were filled unopposed. With the corporator and ward seats added, 10,262 candidates stood. Under the old system, corporators and councillors elected their own mayor or chairperson. The Assembly handed that choice to voters when it passed the Municipal Laws (Fourth Amendment) Bill on Wednesday, 19 August 2026; voters cast one vote for a ward member and another for mayor or chairperson.

Polling took place on Sunday, 1 November, in all 13 municipal corporations and 79 municipalities and nagar panchayats, with 11,378 polling stations in use and 99,36,014 names on the rolls. In eight more towns, Allagadda, Dachepalli, Darsi, Gurazala, Kamalapuram, Piduguralla, Proddatur and Rayachoti, every post was won unopposed, so no vote was held there. Voting was on paper ballots, and once it closed the boxes were moved to police-guarded strong rooms.

The turnout figures

By 3 pm on 1 November, the SEC’s preliminary count put statewide turnout at 48.03 per cent. The Commission said it would give the final figure on Monday, 2 November, after checking the returns from each polling station. When polls closed, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) had drawn 9,45,915 of the 18,37,901 people on its rolls, a turnout of 51.47 per cent; women, at 4,90,519, outnumbered men, at 4,55,395. The Guntur Municipal Corporation announced 56.15 per cent, or 3,47,438 of its 6,18,714 voters.

Voting in Vijayawada’s division 55 started about two-and-a-half hours late because a printing error had swapped candidates’ symbols on the ballot papers. The SEC allowed voting there until 7.30 pm.

Polling for the Mandal and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTC and ZPTC) follows on Thursday, 5 November, from 7 am to 5 pm, with counting on Saturday, 7 November, from 8 am. Results for every corporation and municipality will appear on the Telugu Scope results page as they are declared.
