Deepavali 2026 for Hyderabad and London: Lakshmi Puja on Sunday in both, but Naraka Chaturdashi a day apart

Lakshmi Puja is on Sunday, 8 November, in Hyderabad and London, but London keeps Naraka Chaturdashi on Saturday. Here are the puja times for each city and the full festival sequence.

Lakshmi Puja falls on Sunday, 8 November, for families in Hyderabad and in London alike, but the dawn oil bath of Naraka Chaturdashi does not. Under the traditional almanac’s city-by-city calculations for Deepavali 2026, Hyderabad keeps Naraka Chaturdashi and Lakshmi Puja on the same Sunday, while London moves Naraka Chaturdashi a day earlier, to Saturday, 7 November.

The reason is the clock. A tithi starts at one instant everywhere, and Chaturdashi begins at 10.47 am IST on Saturday, which is 5.17 am in London. That is before sunrise in Britain, so London’s Saturday morning already belongs to Chaturdashi and the abhyanga snanam window there runs from 5.17 am to 7.04 am. In Hyderabad, Saturday’s sun is up long before 10.47 am, so the oil bath waits for Sunday, between 5.19 am and 6.18 am.

Lakshmi Puja muhurtham, city by city

For Hyderabad, Amavasya begins at 11.27 am on Sunday and the Lakshmi Puja muhurtham is 6.07 pm to 8.08 pm IST, inside a pradosha window of 5.42 pm to 8.13 pm. For London, Amavasya begins at 5.57 am GMT and the muhurtham is 4.35 pm to 6.12 pm GMT, with pradosha from 4.22 pm to 7.19 pm. Readers in New York get a puja window of 5.04 pm to 6.52 pm local time on Sunday and, like London, take the Naraka Chaturdashi bath on Saturday, between 5.00 am and 6.33 am. Each time applies only to the city named; other towns differ by some minutes.

Five days, two calendars

Dhanteras opens the festival on Friday, 6 November, in both cities: the puja time is 6.15 pm to 8.14 pm in Hyderabad and 4.43 pm to 6.20 pm in London. In London the rest follows on consecutive days, with Naraka Chaturdashi on Saturday, Lakshmi Puja on Sunday, Govardhan Puja and Annakut on Monday, 9 November, and Bhai Dooj on Tuesday, 10 November.

Hyderabad’s calendar stretches further because Amavasya there lasts until 12.31 pm on Monday. Govardhan Puja and Bali Pratipada fall on Tuesday, 10 November, and Bhai Dooj, or Yama Dwitiya, on Wednesday, 11 November, with the aparahna window from 1.08 pm to 3.25 pm.
