Sindhu wins the Hylo Open without dropping a game; Lakshya Sen completes India’s singles double in Saarbrücken

P. V. Sindhu is the Hylo Open champion after a 21-12, 21-14 final in Germany against Denmark's Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt that lasted 39 minutes, a week after losing in the French Open final. Lakshya Sen took the men's title, and Sindhu has pulled out of the Korea Open.

A week after An Se Young beat her in the Paris final of the French Open, P. V. Sindhu travelled to Saarbrücken and did not lose a single game. The Hyderabad shuttler won the Hylo Open women’s singles title on Sunday, 1 November, defeating Denmark’s Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in a final that lasted 39 minutes.

The trophy is Sindhu’s second of the 2026 season, after July’s Japan Open, and no Indian woman had held the singles crown at the German event before her. Ranked eighth in the world, she faced a player ranked 25th and never let the final go to a third game.

Straight games from start to finish

Every one of her matches in Saarbrücken ended in two games. In the semi-finals she met a compatriot, Anmol Kharb, and won 21-13, 21-16. In the final she took the opening game 21-12, moved 7-3 ahead early in the second and closed it out at 21-14. The win is worth 9,200 ranking points, which lifts her chances of a berth at the BWF World Tour Finals, the closing event of the season.

India had a second champion on the same Sunday. Lakshya Sen beat Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie, the defending champion, 21-17, 21-10 in the men’s singles final. It was Lakshya’s second title at the Saarbrücken tournament, a feat no other Indian has managed, and the first BWF title he has won in 2026.

No Sindhu in Korea

Sindhu will not take that run straight into the next stop on the tour. She has pulled out of the Korea Open, a Super 500 event she won in 2017, which begins on Tuesday, 3 November at Jinnam Stadium. H. S. Prannoy opens the men’s singles campaign against home player Yoo Tae-bin, while Tanvi Sharma heads the Indian challenge in women’s singles.
