Prabhas’s Spirit gets a Diwali date: Vanga fixes 29 October 2027 release

Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has announced that Spirit, his cop drama with Prabhas, will release worldwide on 29 October 2027, unveiling a new poster of the actor along with the date.

Prabhas’s much-awaited police drama Spirit now has a firm release date. Announcing the Spirit release date on Sunday, 18 October, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga said the film will reach theatres across the world on 29 October 2027, placing it in the Diwali holiday window. The film is the first collaboration between the actor and the director.

Vanga made the announcement on X. He first told followers that a fresh poster carrying the new date was on its way, and then shared it with the line “29TH OCTOBER DIWALI 2027. Worldwide RELEASE DATE”, tagged #InSpiritMode.

A new look at Prabhas

The poster is a tight side profile of the actor against a largely white background. Prabhas wears a black cap pulled low and dark glasses that hide his eyes, and sports a thick, greying beard. The film’s title runs across the lower half in red script, above the date and a row of language names.

Spirit had earlier been announced for 5 March 2027, a date T-Series reaffirmed as recently as August. The move to Diwali pushes the film back by nearly eight months, and no reason for the change has been given publicly.

Cast and makers

Prabhas plays a police officer in the action drama. Triptii Dimri, who worked with the director in Animal (2023), is the female lead, in her second film with Vanga. Vivek Oberoi, Kanchana and Aishwarya Desai have important roles.

The film is a joint production of T-Series Films and Bhadrakali Pictures. The poster credits Bhushan Kumar, Pranay Reddy Vanga, Krishan Kumar and Prabhakar Reddy Vanga as producers.

The makers are planning a release in eight languages. Besides Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada, the poster lists Chinese, Japanese and Korean, pointing to a push into overseas markets alongside the pan-India release.

Spirit release date sets up a crowded festival

The Diwali slot puts Spirit in the same festival season as Ranbir Kapoor and Yash’s Ramayana: Part Two, which its makers have slated for Diwali 2027. With more than a year to go, either film’s schedule could still shift.

The makers have not yet announced a teaser or trailer date. Further updates are expected from the production houses in the coming months.
