Deepavali 2026: Naraka Chaturdashi and Deepavali both on Sunday, 8 November; Hyderabad puja times
Naraka Chaturdashi and Deepavali share one date in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in 2026, Sunday 8 November: Chaturdashi is in force in the small hours of Sunday and Amavasya holds that evening. Here are the Hyderabad timings, and what the date means for the holiday.

Naraka Chaturdashi and Deepavali fall on one day across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in 2026: Sunday, 8 November. Both state governments list Deepavali on 8 November in their 2026 holiday calendars, and Telangana’s list also names that date for Naraka Chaturdashi, as an optional holiday.
Deepavali is a general holiday in both states. Because it lands on a Sunday, government employees do not gain an extra day off, and each state has put it on its list of Sunday holidays.
Chaturdashi at dawn
On Naraka Chaturdashi, families observe the abhyanga snanam, an oil bath taken before the sun is up, so the festival goes to the day on which Chaturdashi is in force in the hours before sunrise. In Hyderabad, Chaturdashi starts at 10.47 am on Saturday, 7 November, hours after sunrise, so Saturday’s dawn still belongs to Trayodashi. Chaturdashi then carries on to 11.27 am on Sunday, so the bath falls on Sunday. The sun rises in Hyderabad at 6.18 am on 8 November.
As Chaturdashi ends at 11.27 am on Sunday, Amavasya begins, and it lasts till 12.31 pm on Monday, 9 November. Deepavali’s Lakshmi puja belongs to pradosha, the period that begins at sunset, and since Amavasya holds through Sunday evening, Deepavali is on Sunday as well.
Puja hours in Hyderabad
On Sunday, 8 November, the sun sets in Hyderabad at 5.42 pm, and pradosha runs from then until 8.13 pm. Other cities have slightly different hours.
Two days before Deepavali, on Friday, 6 November, come Dhana Trayodashi, widely known as Dhanteras, and Yama Deepam. In Hyderabad, Trayodashi runs from 10.30 am on 6 November to 10.47 am on 7 November.
At Tirumala’s Srivari temple, the Deepavali Asthanam is on 8 November. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) said on 31 October that it will run from 7 am to 9 am in the Ghanta Mandapam, which stands before the Bangaru Vakili. Karthika masam is counted from Tuesday, 10 November, the first sunrise after Amavasya ends at 12.31 pm on Monday, 9 November.
